When you hear the word ice, you may think of nothing but frozen water. But thanks to Mayor John Jenkins, the students of St. Dom’s are also reminded of the core values that our school is built on. “Ice” is an acronym standing for “Integrity, Community, and Excellence.” When Mayor Jenkins spoke to the St. Dom’s student body on December 6th, he clarified the meaning of all of these qualities of our school. Integrity is the moral character of a person. Basically, if you do the right thing regardless of what others are doing, you have integrity.

The community aspect of St. Dom’s is how we treat each other. It is how we function as a whole, as a school community. Excellence is not so hard to understand. At St. Dom’s we always strive to succeed and be excellent in everything we do. Mayor Jenkins elaborated on “ICE” further in saying that ice is firm; it can support your weight. And if we follow the acronym “ICE,” it can support us as a school and as individual students. Mayor Jenkins was a very charismatic and entertaining speaker and it was an honor and a pleasure to have him come speak at St. Dom’s. We are looking forward to his next visit.
