NORWAY – The Norway Memorial Library will present several tutorials in April to introduce the variety of databases that are available through Maine’s virtual library, MARVEL. The databases are provided to all Maine residents through state funding, and all of the tutorials are free and open to the public. Preregistration is required.

On Tuesday, April 20, how to use the EBSCO Databases will be the tutorial topic from 2 to 3 p.m. The EBSCO Databases provide access to diverse publications, but also include popular magazines like Time, Newsweek and People.

On Thursday, April 22, three tutorials will be offered. Middle school and home school students and their parents will find useful information during the 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. tutorial. During this time, use of NoveList K-8 and other age appropriate databases will be examined. Next, using the databases to find reliable health information will be the topic for the tutorial presented from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

A “research paper helper” tutorial, offered from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., will be of interest to high school and adult education students. This tutorial will review use of the literature databases offered in the virtual library.

On Friday, April 23, the tutorial for finding reliable health resources will be repeated from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. How to use the NoveList database, an electronic fiction resource that will help with making reading selections, will be offered from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; and how to use the ProQuest Newspaper Database and the Maine Newsstand Database, which provides access to four Maine newspapers, will be offered from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Contact the Norway library at 743-5309 or email at [email protected] for more information or to register. Seating is limited, so registration is required.
