AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 15, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St., to do crafts for the exchange table at the district meeting being held April 17 and for the president of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine.

The meeting will follow at 7 p.m. when the birth of Schuyler Colfax will be observed. Colfax was the founder of the Rebekah Degree and was born March 23, 1823.

The members will also have a walk for the Ellen T. Washburn Nurses Training Award. The program originated in 1957 by the Rebekah Assembly of Maine to assist those who wish to pursue careers as registered nurses in Maine. Last year, 19 awards were given.

Applications for one of these awards are available at high schools and colleges in Maine or from any Rebekah or Odd Fellow lodge in the state. The deadline for the 2004 awards is April 15.

AARP speaker

LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, March 15, at the Multi-Purpose Center seniors room, Birch Street.

Phil Nadeau, Lewiston assistant city administrator, will be the speaker. Nadeau has held a variety of responsibilities since 1999. He is on the Governor’s Immigrant Refuge Task Force and is the city’s spokesman on the subject.

The board of directors will meet at 12:30 p.m. Attendance and pot of gold winners drawings will be held followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

VFW to nominate

LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary willl meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the post home, Route 196. Members will hold first nomination of officers. They will discuss upcoming benefits, pool and dart tournaments. All members are invited, and new members are welcome. Call 353-5291 after 3 p.m. for more information.

Toastmasters

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Toastmasters Club 1741 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the Bates Mill Complex first-floor conference room, 35 Canal St.

Speakers will be Andie Locke, Don Miville and Bob Sawyer. Table Topic Master will be Bill Lee. Meetings are open to visitors, and the club is always looking for new members.

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. A boiled dinner will be prepared by the Recreation Department staff. Members should bring utensils and wear something in keeping with St. Patrick’s Day. Bingo will be offered after lunch.

Those who are attending a Irish cabaret on Friday, March 19, should be at the farmer’s market at the Auburn Mall at 9:15 a.m.

Attendance winners on March 3 were Frances Wentworth and Penny Rossignol; pot of gold winners, Martha Goodwin, Elsie Whitney and Erma Gagnon.

The annual food auction was held with Roy Tassinari as auctioneer. Several members assisted him in the successful fund-raising.

Info session

KEENE, N.H. – Antioch New England Graduate School has scheduled an information session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Central Maine Medical Center for those interested in learning about its weekends-only master’s program in organization and management.

Prospective students are invited to learn about the program, meet faculty and ask questions in an informal atmosphere. The event will take place in the first-floor, west-wing conference room.

Going to state

LEWISTON – Jonathan Caron, a sixth-grader at St. Joseph’s School, will represent his school at the state geography bee on Friday, April 2, at the University of Maine in Orono.

Caron qualified for the state level after winning the school competition and taking a national qualifying test.

Each winner at the state level will advance to the national geography bee in Washington, D.C., in May.

Caron is the son of Roger and Debra Caron of Auburn.

Blood drive

LEWISTON – Employees at Per-Se Technologies participated in the biannual blood drive on Feb. 20. Per-Se workers began holding blood drives in 2001 and since then they have donated 410 pints of blood, including donations from 39 first-time donors. The next blood drive is scheduled for September.
