LEWISTON – The South Lewiston Baptist Church recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Special music and a time of retrospective sharing highlighted the event. Many members shared their experiences dating back to the beginning of the ministry, while other members shared how God is touching their lives through the mentoring of older members in the body.
A special tribute to Pastor Emeritus the Rev. Anthony Lombardi was also a feature of the celebration.
The congregation first met at the Old Clough Meetinghouse on Crowley Road in 1953 then moved to its present location on 1919 Lisbon Road. For 35 years under the leadership of Lombardi, the fellowship increased in spiritual and numerical growth.
In 1991 the Rev. Bryan Church was called to the leadership to continue in the ministry and to communicating the Gospel locally, nationally and worldwide, and the church continues to follow its vision and deliver the message.
