The annual “Christmas with the Masons” will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Dr. Moses Mason House. The house will be decorated as it might have been in the 19th century with boughs, berries and fruit. Period music and refreshments will be offered with hot mull cider served from the hearth of the winter kitchen. Everyone is welcome. There is no admission charge.

Society Director Stanley R. Howe presented the final lecture in the 2003 series focusing on the history of transportation in Maine. His lecture was made possible in part by a grant from the New Century Community Program and the Maine Humanities Council. Howe described the adventurous spirit that many of the early aviation enthusiasts exhibited in the 1920s and 1930s. He traced the history of the Bethel airport from its beginnings in 1945 to the recent dedication of an expanded facility in 2003.
