FARMINGTON – This week’s Franklin County Animal Shelter Pet of the Week is named after a famous scientist. Einstein came to the shelter as a stray on Aug. 22 from Jay.
He is thought to be some kind of shepherd mix, but because of his unique appearance, it is often said that he looks to have just fallen from the pages of a Dr. Suess book.
The shelter staff love him because of his carefree nature and playful antics. When getting ready for a walk, he excitedly walks in a figure eight, then sits eagerly waiting for his leash.
New dogs at the shelter include a female black Labrador puppy from the Lomie River Road, a male Husky with choker collar from Farmington, a female black Lab mix from Weld, a female shepherd mix from Madrid, a male shepherd puppy from Livermore Falls and a male pitbull from Livermore Falls.
The shelter is trying to develop a fund to help people with low income get their pets spayed and neutered. The staff is accepting bottle donations to raise money to get the program started.
The staff will also host a bottle drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Members will be stationed at Wal-Mart to collect returnables.
