LOVELL – In anticipation of Stephen King receiving the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation, the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library will raffle off two signed, first edition hard-cover books by Stephen King: “Skeleton Crew” and “The Tommyknockers.”

This is the first time that the organization has awarded its medal to an author best known for writing in popular genres like horror stories, science fiction or thrillers. They chose to honor King for a host of reasons: his storytelling skill, his promotion of less-established writers, his donations to libraries and schools and the sheer volume of his work.

Tickets cost $1 for one or $5 for six. Stop by the library on Route 5 or mail check in to Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library, P.O. Box 105, Lovell, ME 04051. The staff will fill out the tickets for you. Tickets can be bought from Oct. 1 to Nov. 18. Two winning tickets will be drawn on Nov. 19, the day King will receive his medal in New York City. For more information, call 925-3177.
