LEWISTON – Due to the need for additional instructor courses, the United Valley Chapter, American Red Cross, will offer a course to become a certified first aid, AED and CPR instructor.

There will be two sets of the course, one at Gardiner Area High School from Oct. 2 to 28, every Tuesday and Thursday, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The second will be at the Lewiston office from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 3 to Dec. 5.

It is an opportunity for a company to have a certified trainer on the job site. For information or to register, call 795-4004.

Lecture series

LEWISTON – Holy Cross Church will offer an adult lecture series beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1. The featured speaker will be Michelle Morneault. The topic will be “Mary the Mother of God.”

Morneault is a social worker by profession who works at a nursing home in Freeport. She has been in leadership positions for young adult ministry, the pro-life movement and prayer groups at St. Joseph’s Church, her parish.

The session will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the church. For more information, call Holy Cross Pastoral Office at 783-7241 and ask for Ruth Oakley. Registration is free to the public.

Cow races

WALES – The Wales Parent Teacher Student Association will hold a “Close to the Cows 10K” and a “Calf Mile Fun Run for Kids” on Sunday, Oct. 5. The cow course, a challenging course on quiet country roads, will begin at 9 a.m. The calf run will start at 8:30 a.m.

Registration for both races will begin at 8 a.m. at Wales Central School. T-shirts will be awarded to the first 100 entrants in the 10K and there will be awards and prizes for various age groups in both races. There will also be local business raffle prizes.
