NORWAY – The Western Maine Art Group has canceled an open house on Friday, Sept. 5, due to construction taking place at the Lajos Matolcsy Art Center, 480 Maine St.

Art display

NORWAY – An art display from three artists in sculpture, painting and photographs, will be shown through Oct. 18 at Fare Share Commons. An opening reception takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, with a visit with the artists at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. Gallery hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Thusdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Church service

STONEHAM – Oxford County United Parish churches will return to one Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. at the Stoneham Congregational Church, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 7. The Rev. George Frobig has announced a Church Growth Workshop to begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15. The next business meeting of the parish is at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Stoneham Congregational CHurch vestry.

Downhill derby

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Downhill Derby will hold its Arthur Dean Memorial Race Sunday, Sept. 7, for youths 7 to 17. Registration is at 11 a.m. and racing at 1 p.m. The snack shack will be open. For more information, call Nancy at 674-2936.

AARP speaker

PARIS – Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the VFW hall on East Main Street, South Paris. Guest speaker will be Samantha Green, a certified rehabilitation teacher for the Iris Network. She will speak on vision problems as people age, preventive measures, and any aids or help available for those blind or have low vision. Guests are welcome.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge met Aug. 29 with 5 tables playing a Howell Movement. Don Johnson and Larry Holmes came in first. Second was Richard Allen and Pete Cummings, third was Marta Clements followed in fourth by Eric and Marilyn Sahlberg. The group meets every Friday at 9 a.m. at the Fare Share Commons on Main Street.
