FARMINGTON – The American Cancer Society is inviting residents of Franklin County to attend a Road to Recovery training session to help cancer patients in the area. This program builds a local network of volunteer drivers to provide cancer patients with transportation to their treatments.
The training session will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in the Healthy Community Coalition Conference Room, 20 Church St., East Wilton. Refreshments will be served. Those interested in becoming volunteer drivers are asked to bring proof of automobile insurance and registration.
More than 7,000 Maine residents are living with cancer every day.
“Many cancer patients don’t have family or friends to transport them to treatment – and people who don’t have transportation, don’t go to their appointment,” explained Debbie Trask, Health Outreach Specialist at the American Cancer Society. “Cancer patients need to be able to rely on someone to transport them. Road to Recovery provides a solution.”
Anyone with a car and spare time can help someone keep an important appointment by volunteering for this program.
