FARMINGTON – Janine M. Winn of Temple received the University of Maine at Farmington’s Alumni Achievement Award on May 15 at the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony. The Alumni Association award honors a UMF graduate who has achieved distinction in his/her field.
Winn has gained recognition in her position as executive director of SAVES, an organization to assist victims of rape. She was one of the founding members of the organization and was first trained as a hotline volunteer, then became its director.
The SAVES programs now include the rape crisis hotline, support groups, community and professional education and a school-based education program. It has recently expanded to offer support services for trauma survivors, a “Level II” Hotline.
Winn graduated from UMaine Farmington in 1982 and earned a bachelor’s degree in community health education.
