LEWISTON – Children of the L/A community ages 5 and up are invited to join The Jesus Party, an urban children’s ministry, in commemorating the third anniversary of the terrorist’ attacks on the United States.
Douglas and Sonia Taylor, hosts, will hold a “Proud to be an American” gathering at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Jesus Party headquarters, 291 Bates St.
Patriotic mentors Jerry DerBoghosian and Albert Moreau will be on hand to sing patriotic songs with the children. The ministry will address the issues raised by the terrorist’ strikes on Sept. 11, 2001.
Children will view a 23-minute video, “Remembering Sept. 11th.” The program was created with the help of a child’s psychologist to ensure its appropriateness for a young audience.
The ministry’s objective is to focus heavily on the positive acts that occurred in the days and weeks following 9/11, including the many heroic acts of bravery that depict the American spirit and revitalized patriotism in the U.S.
Children will have the opportunity to create two large “Thinking of You” cards that will be sent to local firefighters and policemen. To honor the efforts of U.S. military, all present will receive yellow ribbons and the chance to win G.I. Joe action figures as the door prize.
