Life is a challenge we as people face. Even if we don’t want it to, life will twist itself around and cause pain. Some people may question whether their outlook is the right one, or what the meaning of our life is. You might even wonder what life expects of you. No matter what your concerns may be, you’ll find that most of them can be answered.
Life can be a harsh journey, or it can be a peaceful walk, but either way, you have an outlook on it. Most people think of “good” or “bad” when they are asked what they have for an outlook. However, there is more to it than that. Depending on your situation in life, your thoughts or outlooks will vary. The possibilities are endless!
For example: Relationships can make your outlook what it is. If you have good trusting relationships with your friends, you’re bound to have a positive outlook on life. If your relationships are the opposite, your outlook might be bad. Maybe it’s not. Maybe your life is terrible, but you believe that it will get better. The truth is that life is a rollercoaster. You may think life is great until a tragedy or something bad happens to you. From personal experience, your life will never always be good, your bad days will come. That is when your perspective may lean more towards the unhappy side.
“Everything sucks,” (Pay It Forward). That statement can either be true or false for your life. Who knows, maybe that’s your motto for life. The truth is, it doesn’t have to be that way. “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” that’s what Ghandi said. If you want everyone to be as happy or unhappy as you are, then be yourself. Don’t hide behind masks of fakeness. Set an example your own way. No one’s opinions of life are right or wrong. It all depends on the person. That person is you. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
As your life goes on, you might wonder what the meaning of your life is or what your purpose is. If you think that people were put on this earth to suffer, then you’re right and wrong. If you think we are put on this earth to live through thick and thin, then you’re right and wrong. Many people believe that we are put on this world as a test. A test to see if we are worthy to live or die. Some people believe that life is like a flower. If you treat it right and give it the proper things to live, it will grow in good ways. Other people believe that life is one big party, so you need to live it up. Your purpose on Earth is whatever your mission in life entitles you to. You can waste your life doing meaningless things, or you can turn it into something of your own. You can make your life into the meaning you want, need, or desire. Or you can hurt it by simply not believing you have a purpose in this obstacle known as life.
But what happens when your disbelief of yourself gets out of hand? No one should ever believe that they have no purpose. If you do, all you need is a little reassurance. As one of my great teachers, Mrs. St. Peirre, said to me, “I used to say, the day will get better. Don’t believe that because it’s not true. Now I say, the day will be over.” You will have bad days and depressing moments, there’s no doubt about it, but the bad day will be over in a matter of hours. In the song “Who Knows,” by Avril Lavigne, she says, “So you go and make it happen. Do your best just keep on laughing. One thing’s true, there’s always a brand new day.” This means that no matter what happens, tomorrow is a new day with new events and opportunities.
Just because a curve ball is thrown at you randomly doesn’t mean you are obligated to live your life that way forever. You can turn it around and own it. “The realm of possibility is where in all of you? …… Your head.” (Kevin Spacey)
If your life doesn’t want to give you a rest, just remember this lyric from the Song of Solomon, “You are all together beautiful my love. There is no flaw in you.” Everyone has a purpose and it’s different from anyone else’s. Life doesn’t care if you’re male or female, rich or poor, black or white. It will always have opportunities and possibilities. It’s up to you to decide what they are and how to find them.
One of life’s bigger questions is what does life expect of you? The media mostly decides what they think you need to be. Advertising says that you need to be beautiful and thin. People only need to be whatever they think is necessary. As Kevin Spacey asks, “What does the world expect of you?” The reply-“Nothing”-is absolutely right. No one in the world expects you to change our ways of living or make it a better place. They expect nothing.
If you are under 18 years of age, you can’t go out and vote to change the world, you can’t drive to give someone a ride, you can’t even walk down the hallway without a pass. The world can’t expect something if you don’t do something. But people sometimes underestimate the power of younger people. When we do raise interest by trying, we get more help. If you want to make a difference, the world expects a difference. If you want laws to be broken, they expect laws to be broke.
However, people are oblivious to the fact that you don’t have to live by the expectations of the world and the people in it. You can be bold and have your own style. It’s your decision.
Life altogether is one big mission. Whether the mission is easy or hard-that’s your choice. For me, I’m making it an easy mission by staying healthy, getting good grades, having healthy relationships with my friends and family, and believing in myself. Life can throw me problems left and right, and I’ll try to overcome them. Through thick and thin, I’m making my life my own. My choices, my beliefs, my life.
