RANGELEY – Mac Dudley, archery director for the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association will be offering both Olympic style and 3-D target (hunting style) archery lessons in late July and early August. Dudley, an avid hunter for 30 years, is certified as a bowhunter safety instructor and as a National Archery Association Level II archery instructor.

The Olympic style archery lessons provide beginners and novices with the basics of competitive target shooting including equipment selection, setup, safety and technique. There will be eight hours of instruction over four days beginning Tuesday, July 29. Dudley offers lessons for both youth (ages 9 to 15) and for adults. Adult classes will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, July 29 and 30, and Aug. 5 and 6.

Youth classes will be earlier on the same days from 1 to 3 p.m. Parents are encouraged to attend with their kids on the first day of lessons for youth.

The club provides all equipment. However, participants are welcome to bring their own bow and arrows. The cost is $20 for adults and youths. Classes will be held at the clubhouse on Old Skiway Road in Oquossoc.

Those interested can register and pay at the Rangeley Town Office (contact Jim Quimby at 864-3326) or with Dudley directly. For more information, call Mac Dudley at 864-5919.

Bowhunter lessons using 3-D targets will be provided by Dudley by appointment. These individualized lessons begin with a tour of the range and will be consistent with the participant’s experience level. The club maintains its own 3-D bowhunting target range realistically set within the club’s wooded property. The 3-D targets include life-sized small and large game including bear, deer, turkey, fox and raccoon. Lessons and use of the range are free to members. For non-members, a donation to the club’s archery fund will be accepted. Contact Dudley for further information.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the club, contact John Thomas at 864-5360. Or, guests are welcome to come to a club meeting which occur the third Thursday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner, followed by a short business meeting and then a guest speaker.
