FARMINGTON – Goding’s Taekwondo recently held its annual fund-raiser. This year’s event had students making more than 85,000 kicks, shattering last year’s 25,000. More than $2,000 in donations, about $1,000 more than last year, has been collected so far.

The drive behind the event is to benefit a local youth, Ike Doiron, and his family. Doiron, a student at Goding’s Taekwondo, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia this summer. The illness calls for extensive treatment, including chemotherapy and a bone marrow transfusion. The family will have many expenses, medical, travel and time away from home out of state.

“Taekwondo is the art of using the hands and feet,” said instructor Rob Goding. “Our way to lend a hand is with our feet. Ike and his family are an important part of our Taekwondo family. This is the way we knew we could help out.”

Donations for the family are still coming in and more are welcome. Anyone wishing to donate may contact Goding at 778-6500 or send a donation to Mike and Bryn Doiron c/o Goding’s Taekwondo, PO Box 685, Farmington, ME 04938.
