PERU – The Worthley Pond Association’s eighth annual Christmas in July celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25.
Camp and homeowners will decorate their camps in the Christmas spirit and a boat decorating contest will take place. Judging will be held between 9 and 10 p.m. Saturday.
Red Hats meet
RUMFORD – The Red Hats will meet on Wednesday, July 28, at the Penalty Box. Members planning to attend are asked to call Rita at 562-7402.
The group met June 30 with 45 attending at the Mexico Chicken Coop.
New members are Anita Murphy, Billie Koris, Linda Petrie, Ann Rouleau, Dee Holman, Janet Lamson and Marge Blough. Winning Red Hat pins were Peggy Welch, Barbara Kaulback and Pat Hopkins.
Bell rings again
MEXICO – The Abbott School bell rang once again at 1 p.m. July 4, due to the work of the Mexico Historical Society.
The bell is secure in its new home in a cupola on the lawn of the Wills Museum. About 30 were present when society President Irene Hutchinson gave a few words and Pastor Larry Shaw spoke and recited a prayer.
Two former Abbott School teachers, Jeannie Raines and Millicent Mann, were the first to ring the bell, then everyone took a turn. Light refreshments were available.
Gagnon reunion
PERU – The Ernest and Vilma Gagnon family held a reunion on July 4 at Honey Run campground, Worthley Pond. The elder Gagnons are from Rhode Island while many family members attended from the area. Four generations were present for the occasion.
