NORWAY – The Music Committee of the First Universalist Church of Norway (Unitarian Universalist) announces that Heather Pierson, former director of the Circle Voice Singers, has accepted the position as music director.

Pierson, a vocalist, percussionist and classically-trained pianist, has been performing publicly since age 8, and has been singing professionally with some well-known local New England acts since high school. Her spiritual journey has led her to the release of four self-produced recordings under her own record label, Vessel Recordings. Her latest release is titled “Between Lives,” a collaboration with percussionist Alfred Lund of One Heart Drums in Winthrop.

Her presence at the church has already been made with her monthly open mic/coffeehouse series, which began in January 2002. Each month, on a Friday evening, performers sign up to perform in an open mic setting, while raising money for local charities and nonprofits.

“It is my belief that music is not merely a blending of chords, harmony and dissonance. It is a language of great healing power which speaks to every person, to our hearts, to our souls, no matter who we are or what we believe or where we come from,” Pierson said.

The public is invited to hear Pierson’s music at the 11 a.m. Sunday service.
