LEWISTON – Four courses in the master of arts in leadership studies program at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will be offered in the fall semester, which opens Aug. 30.
Foundations of Leadership Studies I: History and Theory (Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m.) provides an overview of leadership history using approaches from philosophy, social science, literature, science and history. Course objectives include understanding the nature of leadership within a democratic culture and applying concepts and theories to real-life situations and organizations.
Methods of Inquiry (Thursdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m.) offers an examination and use of various quantitative and qualitative research methods appropriate to the study of leadership. Concepts, principles and techniques used in organizational and leadership studies will be considered.
Community and Relationship Building (Wednesdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m.) will explore the various communication and behavioral theories and techniques that mediate interpersonal dynamics.
Community Leadership (Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m.) will study the community leadership process as it pertains to developing citizenship, volunteerism and social equity.
The program provides opportunities for organizational and community leaders to build a deep understanding of the dynamics of leadership, how leadership interacts with other human dynamics and the role of the leader in society.
The mission of the program is to develop professionals who understand the nature of human relationships, appreciate the impact individuals can have on society and exercise effective, ethical leadership in organizations and communities in the context of globalization.
Students interested in registering for fall semester courses can call 753-6500 for advising and registration assistance. Qualified students not yet admitted to the program are encouraged to register. Applications for matriculation into the program are accepted on a rolling basis.
