JAY – There will be a food and rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at the North Jay Grange Hall.
Dog fun
FAIRFIELD – An AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing and Dog Fun Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Fairfield Community Center, sponsored by K-9 Motivations dog training from Farmington. The program is to reward dogs with basic good manners in the presence of other people and dogs. All dogs passing a 10-item test will receive a certificate.
There will be speakers and a demonstration at noon from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team. There will be food booths, raffles, door prizes and more. Free admission to the public. The program is open to purebred and mixed breed dogs. Those who wish to participate in the testing with their dog or who want more information, can call 778-9261 or 645-2011.
Ag Day grant
FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District recently received a $1,385 grant from the Western Mountains Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to support the 13th annual Agricultural/Environmental Education Day (Ag Day) Sept. 15 at the Farmington Fair.
The grant will help with supplies and partially support the coordination of Ag Day. Approximately 1,200 students, teachers and chaperones attend Ag Day each year. Ag Day educates students about agriculture and the wise use of our natural resources.
LEAP sale
FARMINGTON – LEAP Inc. will hold a benefit tag and baked goods sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at LEAP’s Office at 313 Farmington Falls Road. LEAP is accepting donated items, excluding clothes, for the tag sale. Those who have items to donate can call LEAP at 778-4817 or 778-3443. All donated items are tax deductible.
There will be a large number of items on sale including furniture, household items, sporting goods and exercise equipment. Proceeds will benefit LEAP’s Non-Medicaid Funded Program Services.

Legion helps town
LIVERMORE FALLS – American Legion George Bunten Post No. 10 and auxiliary recently held a blood drive at Murray Hall and had nine new people as donors. In March, Second District President Roberta Simoneau and Second District Cmdr. Delwin Wilson, accompanied by other officers, spent an evening with patients at Togus for bingo games. In February, the post sponsored a McGruff Identification Program for local students. The post opened up for 72 young children to be fingerprinted and photographed.
