Lifeguard course

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is offering a lifeguard certification course on the following dates: Thursday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, from noon to 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 21 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, time to be announced, and Friday, Aug. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are several prerequisites for the course, including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion of the course, the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years, and the CPR expires after one year.

Course fee is $200, including materials. Registration is open, but class size is limited to eight students. Those interested can register at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, 62 Turner St. For more information, call 795-4095 and ask for Erin.

Church meeting

HEBRON – Trustees of the Hebron Community Baptist Church and the Hebron Community Church Outreach will meet at the church to discuss foreign and domestic missions at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Taize service

LEWISTON – Trinity Episcopal Church welcomes all to a monthly Taizé service at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.

Following in the footsteps of the Taizé community, Trinity holds the services in the spirit of ecumenism, reconciliation and peacemaking in the community, providing a place for meditative worship and for a recharging of spirits.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 8 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Jim Flanagan and Lucille Theriault; second, Pat Smith and Shirley West; third, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus.

Flight B winners were: tied at first, Charles Bartlett and Roger Briggs with Helen Little and Anita Perrier. East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Ray Sirois and Ron Reynolds. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the center.

The club also met on Aug. 9 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Ann Johnson and Mary Leahey; second, Leslie Buzzell and John Hackett; third, Paul Barber and Luke Merry; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; fifth, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons.

Flight B winners were: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; second, Helen Little and Anita Perrier. Class C winners were Helen Little and Anita Perrier. Another game will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
