BATH – The Kids’ Project, one of the many programs of the Pine Tree Society, seeks volunteer woodworkers and upholsterers to construct adaptive equipment for children with disabilities.

“Families who have children with disabilities are often stretched very thin financially,” said Teresa Berkowitz. “That’s why The Kids’ Project is so important. Because of the work of our dedicated volunteers we are able to offer this essential equipment at a significant cost savings.”

Adaptive equipment helps children with disabilities achieve success by becoming more actively involved in their play, classroom and therapy settings. Being more involved helps increase self-esteem and promotes a greater sense of self-worth. Many parents, educators and health professionals are faced with difficulties affording high costs of adaptive equipment essential to the children’s success.

Woodworking projects range from simple benches that take just a few hours to complex custom-made seating and positioning equipment that might take a few weeks.
