ELLSWORTH – Regina Wakefield of Carrabassett Valley and Rebecca Cammisa of Tarrytown, N.Y., are the 2003 recipients of the Jane Morrison Memorial Film Fellowship, awarded by the Maine Community Foundation.

Wakefield graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor of science degree in cinema and photography. She has been co-producer and director for two documentaries, “Clarity” and “4 Times a Minute.”

She is also a partner in a small production company that specializes in video editing and live audio/video recording of musicians. Her grant of $325 will be used to attend the Boston Film and Video workshop to further her skills at audio recording and filming for the music industry.

Cammisa directed and produced “Sister Helen,” a feature documentary film airing on HBO/Cinemax in August. She has received a number of film awards. Her grant will help underwrite costs for attending the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women.

Maine filmmaker Jane Morrison, creator of “The White Heron,” “Master Smart Woman” and other films, died suddenly while on location shooting a film in Africa.

Born in Augusta, Morrison began making films while teaching English at Cony High School.

The fund was established to help filmmakers attain instruction with preference given, but not restricted, to those residing in Maine. A volunteer advisory committee reviews applications.
