BRIDGTON – Some old favorites are returning to the Musher’s Bowl this year, as well as a few new events.
The festivities kick off on Friday and continue until Jan. 25. A Winter Carnival photography contest at Winterford Galleries opens Friday and runs all week. The town hall will host free ice skating from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, the third annual Mid-Winter Massacre Dodgeball Tournament will be held at Bridgton Academy.
A biathlon clinic and race returns to Five Fields Farm on Sunday. Skiers may train at shooting biathlon targets with an air rifle from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and a skate race of three to five kilometers, depending on conditions, will start at noon. Skiers will not have to carry a rifle, but will take part in two rounds of shooting.
Events during the week include a Bridgton Hospital Healthy Superstars Challenge on Monday, the Musher’s Bowl Talent Search on Wednesday, a police versus fire department basketball game at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Region High School on Jan. 22, and the Winter Carnival Variety Show at 7 p.m. at Stevens Brook Elementary School on Jan. 23.
The weekend of Jan. 24 and 25 will include several Musher’s Bowl events, including dogsled races and rides, skijoring, an ice golf tournament, an ice fishing contest, a pingpong tournament, and snowshoe hikes on Bald Pate Mountain.
