WOODSTOCK – Town Manager Vern Maxfield told selectmen Tuesday that Columbus Day will be busy in Bryant Pond as the town celebrates the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Whitman Memorial Library.
Maxfield said festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include games, contests, music and more.
“… During the day, Richard Felt’s band will play from the porch of the Masonic Hall, there will be horseshoe, croquet and checkers tournaments, a Chinese auction and refreshments. It should be a fun day for everyone,” Maxfield said.
Selectmen and Maxfield also reminded voters of a special town meeting that is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the town office conference room.
Voters will be asked to accept the Rustic Outlook Road off Route 26 in South Woodstock as town road.
That request was submitted by developer Lloyd Poland of Oxford. The road leads to a 12-lot development and is built to town specifications. It would mean an additional $8,000 to $10,000 highway costs annually, according to Maxfield.
Because of Election Day, it also was decided Tuesday that selectmen will hold only one meeting in November, at 5 p.m. Nov. 18.
