SUMNER – Selectmen from Sumner and Buckfield voted not to purchase additional land next to the waste transfer station. The long, narrow 10-acre strip abutting the station had about 150 feet of usable space.
The board voted to purchase Morton salt from Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
Edwin Hinshaw resigned from the Appeals Board and was appointed to the Planning Board.
The tax rate has been set at $16.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The approximate 20 percent increase is due mostly to the SAD 39 budget increase.
The Town Office will be closed Thursday, Oct. 12, to allow Town Clerk Susan Runes to attend a workshop on voting in Farmington.
Peru: Measurements of roads requested
PERU – Selectmen’s Chairman Bill Hine asked Road Commissioner David Gammon to get exact measurements on roads he wanted repaired next year so officials could address the budget.
The roads are Veterans, Ridge, Valley and maybe Pleasant. Gammon also told the board he believes if the culverts were replaced on East Shore Drive, the rest of the road would not be such a large issue.
Animal Control Officer Dan Carrier said the public needs to know that if a stray dog comes to their property they should not take it in or feed it, but call the town office at once.
Hartford: Brochure on waste handling OK’d
HARTFORD – Selectmen agreed to produce a tri-fold brochure to be included in the Hartford News giving residents tips on the proper way to handle waste at the transfer station and curbside pickup.
A sand contract was signed with Maynard Farrar, and the board agreed to award the oil contract to Home Town Energy.
Buckfield: SAD 39 hires gym teacher
BUCKFIELD – Superintendent Rick Colpitts said the SAD 39 board hired Ralph DeSarno as the Buckfield High School gym teacher.
This is a change of career for DeSarno. He has worked several jobs, the last being a corrections officer for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Colpitts also reported that Buckfield High School 1968 graduate Paul Bessey was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Oct. 6 at the University of Rhode Island campus.
