WEST PARIS – The red farm house on Route 219 and mile up the hill from Route 26, is the site of a new business, simply called The Barber Shop.
The slogan on William Vallier’s business card states, “A cut above the rest.”
Diane and Bill Vallier bought the property, which was the former site of the Shakedown Street tattoo parlor, in late summer and quickly turned the front entrance of the home into a well lit shop. Vallier says he thinks the last time a true barber shop was in West Paris was in the late ’60s or ’70s.
The shop opened on Oct. 1 and Bill says he is pleased with his West Paris customers. He says he enjoys the profession because it is fun for him and he loves meeting new people. He adds in his quiet spoken manner that it’s also a nice inside job during winter months.
Vallier has had time to decide if barbering was really fun, since he started barbering in 1966 after graduating from barber school in New Hampshire. It has always been his livelihood and he is licensed in Florida, New Hampshire and Maine.
The Vallier’s son, Seth, lives with them and is starting an Internet classified site. The address is www.wickedgoodads.com but the site is still being developed.
The Barber Shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday, 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. He serves men and boys only.
“Come on down and get a haircut,” he said.
