NORWAY – Hundreds of antique cars are expected to be on display at the 27th annual Lion’s Club Auto Show this weekend.

The show at the Oxford County Fairground begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Doors open again at 9 a.m. Sunday and festivities go on into the night.

“We have antique engines, pre-war antiques, custom trucks, tractors, ’50s, ’60s sports cars and street rods,” said Sandy Sondheim of the Lion’s Club. Registration for antique autos is free, as is admission.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, drivers of antique cars can participate in a poker run.

Drivers will be given directions to a location where they can find a playing card. From there, they drive to pick up a second, third and fourth card. The fifth card is back at the fair grounds.

When drivers have full hands, the best hand wins. After the poker run, drivers will go to the Oxford Plains Speedway for a parade lap.

At 8 p.m. there will be a dance at the fairgrounds with local oldies band The Bel-Airs. Concessions will be sold throughout the weekend.

All events are free, except the concessions and raffle. This year’s raffle prize is a 1967 Ford Mustang.

The car was purchased by the Lion’s Club and reconditioned by students in the auto tech and auto collision and repair courses at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Raffle tickets are available at the auto show for a donation of $5. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The car raffle is the Lion’s Club’s major fund-raiser for the year.

Each year the organization awards five scholarships to students at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

They club also purchases eyeglasses for those who cannot afford them.

Last year, the Lion’s Club provided $7,000 worth of eyeglasses in the Oxford Hills area.
