OXFORD – Guided tours are being given of the historic Center Meeting House on Route 26 through Aug. 12.

The tours are offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by volunteer guides. The meeting house has been required to be open to the public for 12 days each year since the town received a $10,000 grant from the Maine Historic Preservation Commission to help restore the property. The grant was received in 2000.

The meeting house was used as a town hall from the time it was built, in 1829, until 2000. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Some of the building’s original woodwork and rolled glass windows have been preserved through the town’s restoration efforts. The grant money also has been used to shore up the structure’s foundation.
