BUCKFIELD – The town of Buckfield has received a $45,000 grant to replace worn-out playground equipment at Buckfield Memorial Park.
“It’s pretty old,” Town Manager Glen Holmes said of the playground equipment at the 2-acre park on Cross Road. “I played on it as a kid.”
He said the equipment, made of a combination of wood and fiberglass, has deteriorated in some cases to the point that it is dangerous. The grant, from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, was written by Jillian Chabe of the Buckfield Recreation Committee, Holmes said.
It will pay for the purchase and installation of a half-court basketball court, swings, slides, sandbox and a rock wall, as well as benches and picnic tables. “It’s going to be a great place for parents to take their kids and have a family time,” he said.
He said the work will be put out to bid in the next couple of months, and should be completed by summer.
