Local libraries, including school and hospital libraries, and Books-N-Things book store at the Oxford Shopping Plaza, are sponsoring One Book, One Community 2005 programs. The schedule is:
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 1 to 7 p.m., kick-off event, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School forum. Speaker Monica Wood will introduce program, activities and book discussions, and will distribute books, sign-ups for discussion groups and programs.
Thursday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m., Reader’s Theatre organized by Doris Ray and held at Fare Share Commons, Main Street, Norway.
Saturdays, Feb. 12 and 26, 10.30 a.m., tap dancing taught by Sasha Campbell at American Legion Post, Main Street, Norway.
Thursday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m., “History of Local Mills” presented by John Robinson, Stuart Cummings and Hank Morton, at Norway Memorial Library, Main Street, Norway.
Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m., “Ship Building in Maine” presented by Nathan Lipfert, Maine Maritime Museum at Norway Historical Society, Main and Whitman Streets.
Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m., “Thoreau’s Legacy” presented by Peter Coviello of Bowdoin College at Hebron Academy, Route 119.
Thursday, March 10, 7 p.m., “Labor Unions In Maine,” presented by Peter Kellman from North Berwick, at the Paris Public Library, Market Square, South Paris.
Thursday, March 17, 7 p.m., “Journal Keeping” presented by Jeanette Baldridge, at Harrison Village Library.
Thursday, March 24, 7 p.m., “Landscape Art in Maine,” presented by landscape architect Steve Mohr, at Norway Memorial Library.
Thursday, March 31, 7 p.m., “Challenges of Change,” presented by Nikki Abbott, at Western Maine College Center, Main Street, South Paris.
Tuesday, April 5, 7 p.m., wrap-up event, OHCHS forum. Speaker and film loop, “What Is Community?” with Bruce Hazzard, director Western Mountain Alliance; and speaker and book signing with Monica Wood.
Book distribution locations ready for pickup today are as follows: Bolsters Mills Village Library; Freeland Holmes Library, Oxford; Harrison Village Library; Hebron Academy Library; Norway Memorial Library; Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Library; Paris Public Library; Stephens Memorial Hospital Library; Waterford Public Library.
Events for book discussion leaders are as follows:
Tuesday, Feb. 1, supper meeting with Monica Wood, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Norway Memorial Library.
Tuesday, Feb. 15, book discussion leaders workshop with Lynn Bivens, Norway Memorial Library, time to be determined.
Leaders are asked to reserve a space for these two events as soon as possible by calling the Norway Memorial Library at 743-5309. The times and locations of book discussions will be announced later.
