PARIS – A new laptop computer and fitness testing equipment are in store for the Fire Department, thanks to a $20,000 grant secured by Chief Brad Frost.
Frost announced the grant at a Board of Selectmen meeting Monday. He said his department already has raised the 10 percent match required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which awarded the money.
“Now, are there strings attached?” Selectman Raymond Glover asked.
Frost said the money was awarded specifically for the computer and fitness testing equipment. The testing equipment, he said, will be available to all fire departments in the region.
“I say congratulations to Brad for getting another bundle of money,” Glover said.
The board also on Monday authorized interim Town Manager Elisa Whiteley to sign a grant application for money to set up an digital mapping system for the town. Geographic Information System software would be used to place all the town’s property map information on a computer.
Glover said, “We would be able to have our property maps online and somebody could come in and pick up the map on any parcel that we have in the town. It’s really neat.”
Instead of updating traditional paper tax maps each year, he said, the town would keep all the information in easily updated digital form.
The board voted 5-0 to have Whiteley sign the application and forward it to the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, which is helping with the grant process.
