NEWRY – Sprinkler systems and applications were the topics covered Wednesday evening by the Planning Board.
There was much discussion over a fire ordinance brought to the board by the Newry Fire Department. The document makes suggestions for sprinkler systems in specified structures, as well as specifications for fire ponds, hydrants and more.
The Planning Board is reformatting the document so that it can be easily understood by voters.
After discussion and a few changes, the board tabled the document until its next meeting.
The board also approved an application for Unicel Telephone to add an antenna to a tower at Sunday River on Locke Mountain. A Unicel representative explained that there would be a microwave screen placed at the South Ridge Base Loge and the antenna being added would be placed onto an existing tower at Locke Mountain. He said the new antenna would not exceed the height limit. The antenna is scheduled to be brought to the site by helicopter next week.
Another application discussed and approved was for a vendor at Sunday River. The application was for a 12-by-14-foot structure to be placed at Barker Base lodge near the chairlift. The vendor plans to sell Danish and coffee but primarily waffles.
There will be a soil workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 20 in the Bethel Town Hall for any interested board members.
The next Planning Board meeting is at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Newry Town Office.
