WOODSTOCK – Starting Monday, June 14, Town Office business hours will change.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said Wednesday the new hours will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The new hours are being tried on a trial basis,” said Maxfield, “to allow the office staff and myself a chance to utilize the longer daylight hours during the summer months. As a rule, very few people come in during the last half hour. If this doesn’t work out we can change back.”

The hours will hold, though, “until further notice,” he said.

Selectman Leon Poland supported the change.

“This is on a trial basis only so we will decide when to change back later or if we find there are problems with them,” he said.

On another matter, Maxfield said the fire station addition completed earlier this spring shows a budget overrun of about $8,500. By using donations and money from the building maintenance fund, the overrun probably can be cut to about $1,000, he said.

The building maintenance fund contains about $18,000. Donations toward the fire house came to about $13,000.

The addition cost $130,000.

Maxfield told selectmen earlier this week that he has mailed 56 tax liens for unpaid 2003 taxes. That’s about the same number as in the past.

“The unpaid taxes from the liens adds up to about $30,000, which is in line with what it has been right along. This isn’t bad because I expected there would be a lot more than this at first. But after I sent out the 30-day notices people began to come in and get caught up,” Maxfield said.
