PARIS – One of two Massachusetts men involved in the Dec. 3 Big Apple holdup in Bethel pleaded guilty Wednesday in Oxford County Superior Court.
Brian Edwards Kinlin Jr., 19, of Rockland, Mass., who has been incarcerated since the holdup – unable to make $100,000 surety or $5,000 cash bail – pleaded guilty to a Class A felony count of robbery and a Class B felony count of receiving stolen property.
The case was continued to Aug. 4 for sentencing.
Kinlin’s alleged partner in the crime, Daniel Patrick Shannon, 19, also of Rockland, has been indicted on three charges: Class A felony robbery, Class B felony receiving stolen property, and a Class C felony of unlawful possession of heroin.
Shannon is expected to make a plea or other agreement at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, in Superior Court or face a jury trial.
Both men pleaded not guilty at their mid January arraignments to the charges on which they were indicted on Jan. 15 by an Oxford County grand jury.
Both men allegedly robbed the Big Apple convenience store on Railroad Street at gunpoint, then fled down Route 26 while police rushed to the scene. They were apprehended by Paris Sgt. Mike Dailey and officer Matthew Dailey on Route 26 just south of Stearns Hill Road after crashing their car into a tree while counting and stuffing the holdup loot – $583 – into their pockets.
According to a police affidavit, Kinlin said Shannon had the gun, a .22-caliber semi-automatic Llama Especial pistol that the pair had allegedly stolen during a robbery in Rockland.
After the Massachusetts robbery, the pair drove to Shannon’s parents’ condominium at Sunday River Ski Area in Newry the day before they reportedly robbed the Big Apple store.
