PARIS – A home behind the Town Hall is up for sale and members of the Paris Board of Selectmen may ask voters to purchase the site.

The building at 9 Church St. is on the market for $73,500, Town Manager Steve McAllister told the board Monday.

“My suggestion is that the board entertains it,” he said, asking selectmen to think about the property purchase before their Aug. 23 meeting.

“That would benefit the library because we do have a problem with parking there on certain days,” Selectman Bruce Hanson said.

He said the Paris Public Library and the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church might be interested in working together to buy the site.

Without holding a public hearing, Selectman Raymond Glover said, “we don’t have the authority to commit the town to a price guarantee.”

McAllister said a price could be negotiated and then brought before the public at next year’s town meeting. The board voted unanimously to authorize McAllister to pursue negotiations on the property. Discussion of such negotiations will be held in executive session, the board noted, as allowed under state law.
