HARRISON – A 19-year-old Norway woman was seriously injured when her pickup collided with another, whose driver was charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene.
Heather Martin was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and listed in stable condition Friday night, a nursing supervisor said.
She was driving on Route 35, the Waterford Road, about 7:15 p.m. Thursday when her truck and one driven by Eric Starbird, 31, of 55 Town Farm Road in Waterford collided, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Welsh said.
Starbird was arrested at his home and booked at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland on charges of operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, Welsh said. A jail officer said Friday evening that Starbird had been released on bail.
Riding with Starbird was Paul Hodge, 34, also of Waterford. The two were not hurt, the deputy said.
Riding with Martin were sisters Amy Richards, 21, and Melissa Richards, 23, both of Harrison. They were taken to Bridgton Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released, Welsh said.
Martin’s truck was destroyed, while Starbird’s had minor damage and was impounded.
The accident remains under investigation with Maine State Police assisting with reconstruction to determine how it happened.
