Dear Sun Spots: This is going back 64 years ago during 1939-40. I’m looking for the name of a restaurant on Lisbon Street.
Looking on Lisbon Street toward what was Peck’s on the righthand side was a restaurant named the Jay Inn. Next to it was Barnstone-Osgood jewelry store, also a Liggett’s drug store. On the opposite side was Manufacture National Bank and the Star clothing store, ladies apparel, and nearby was a restaurant owned by George Jarvis, who later located to Brunswick.
What I need is the name of this restaurant. I can’t be sure but I think it was called the Colonial? At the entrance as I remember there was some white and green tile in little squares. I would appreciate if someone could help me. I know it goes back in time, but there must be someone old enough to remember. Thank you so much. – CMF, No Town.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots checked the Sun Journal archives and found mention of a Lewiston restaurant called the Apollo that was owned by Andrew Jarvis. It was noted that the restaurant closed on Aug. 10, 1938. Perhaps this is the restaurant you are thinking of?

Dear Sun Spots: I just saw the sled dog race in today’s paper in Bridgton. I seem to remember a sled dog event that is held in the Farmington area around this time of year. I miss it every year. I do not see it in the paper until after the fact. I hope this is not the one that just happened and I missed it again. Seems like it was not a race, but a day for the public to learn about sled dogs. Seems like it was more of a get together than a race. – Ray, Chesterville.
