NORWAY – Local libraries have joined the “Maine Libraries: Something for Everyone” campaign as part of an effort to make the public aware of the variety of resources and services libraries have to offer.

The campaign was officially kicked off April 7 during National Library Week with Gov. John Baldacci unveiling the Web site MaineLibraries.com, the new online gateway to all Maine libraries.

The public is encouraged to visit this Web site to learn more about Maine’s many and varied libraries. There is also a directory of all Maine libraries on this site as well.

ATV course

OXFORD – The Lake Thompson Fish and Game will sponsor a state ATV safety course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the clubhouse at 44 Paine Road in East Oxford.

This course teaches youngsters under 16 years of age to be able to operate a machine off their properties. Youngsters 13 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the course. ATVs will be provided. Preregistration is required.

Child safety seat

NORWAY – The Child Health Center’s ProtectME program will offer a free child passenger safety seat check Thursday, April 24, and free booster seats to those who are eligible.

Cemetery meeting

WEST PARIS – The annual meeting of the Finnish Cemetery Association will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Mission Congregational Church on Church Street.

Reports will be given and election of officers will be held. All people having any connections with the cemetery are urged to attend.

Bethel Airport

BETHEL – The Bethel Airport Authority will hold a celebration of the runway with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the Bethel Regional Airport at Colonel Dyke Field. Gov. John E. Baldacci will be the featured speaker. Leslie B. Otten, a longtime airport supporter and advocate for the runway project, will also speak. Music will be provided by the Gould Academy Chamber Orchestra under the direction of James McLaughlin. The ceremony will be held in the Cleary hangar with seating provided. This event is open to the public.

Housing show

OXFORD – Gov. John Baldacci will show his support of the 2003 Oxford Hills Manufactured Housing Show; the largest display of housing in New England, and the local manufactured housing industry Friday, April 25. Baldacci will arrive at noon for refreshments followed by a brief comment. Principal organizers of this event include Alternative Modular Homes, Keiser Industries, Maine Home Center, Maine HomeCrafters, Martin’s Country Homes, Oxford Homes, Schiavi Homes, Twin Town Homes, and the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce. Gospel singer

WEST PARIS – A concert featuring gospel singer Diane Muse will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the West Paris Baptist Church.

School open house

BETHEL – A open house for the Boxberry School of Oxford, an independent elementary school, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Bethel Inn in the Gibson Room. Children are welcome to attend and join in an activity with Georgina the teacher. Staff will be present to answer questions. For more information call 836-2285. Refreshments will be served.

Auction for pets

PARIS – A Chinese/silent auction will be held to benefit Responsible Pet Care’s cat shelter on Route 118 in Norway. The auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Bidding will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments include hot dishes.

Downtown cleanup

NORWAY – The Norway Business Association and the Downtown Revitalization Group are asking business owners and employees, service organizations and individuals to join forces with them to wash, sweep, rake, paint, prune and pick up the area of Norway to make a nicer environment for residents and visitors throughout the summer months. The two groups are building a list of target spots and a list of volunteers that they will match with an eye toward maximum effort and minimum time. With enough inspired volunteers the two groups feel that a great deal can be accomplished by lunch time. Starting time is planned for 8 a.m. Saturday, April 26. In order to participate, some businesses may not be open until 10 a.m. Target areas include the grounds and windows of empty businesses, common gardens and shrubbery, and the Penn Stream. Appreciation supper

NORWAY – An appreciation supper for Paul and Lucille Hodsdon will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Norway Fire Station. The menu will offer include pork with all the fixings, pies and beverages. Adults $7, children ages 6 to 12, $3.50, under 6 free. Sponsored by the Norway Fire, Oxford Fire, Oxford Rescue and Santa Visits Oxford.
