BETHEL – For selectmen and the Budget Committee, nearly two months worth of budget work concludes with one last meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the town office.

Not only will the two groups determine Bethel’s proposed fiscal year 2004 municipal budget, but they’re also slated to review all proposed expenditures and non-tax revenue estimates for placement on the June town meeting warrant.

Other agenda items involve reviewing preliminary tax rate calculations and determining what amount of surplus to use in buying down the tax rate, which currently represents a 7.6 percent increase.

Using money from the undesignated fund balance, “we could conceivably buy (that increase) all the way down to zero,” said Town Manager Scott Cole.

Both groups are also slated to discuss purchasing a 1992 street sweeper for $11,000, which would reduce contracted services by $4,000.
