NEWRY – Planners at Wednesday night’s board meeting OK’d construction of a real estate office building at Sunday River Ski Resort.
Planning Board Chairman Joseph Aloisio, who is also a Sunday River resort engineer, removed himself from the board to present the building project.
He said resort officials are taking $180,000 from the capital improvements account to construct the building. It will be attached to the welcome concourse .
“We are not demolishing anything, we are adding a building,” Aloisio said, answering a question about whether or not they’d have a Dumpster on the property.
At the board’s request, Aloisio read a letter submitted by the Newry Fire Department, which stated it had no problem with the building, which will be fitted with sprinklers.
Planners found the application complete, and, after reading through criteria and findings of fact, gave it a thumbs up. Aloisio said work would start next month and is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
In other business, planners also continued work on Lawrence Gilbert’s proposed 10-lot subdivision – Estates at Bear Ridge – located off Sunday River Road.
They requested more information of Gilbert through his representative, engineer Tom DuBois of Main-Land Development Consultants Inc. of Livermore Falls.
After granting the project two waivers on town specifications concerning a road, discussion will continue at next month’s board meeting about whether or not a public hearing needs to be held.
Representatives for three other proposed projects scheduled on the agenda failed to show.
