ANDOVER – Fire Chief Rob Dixon has posted a fire watch after grass ignited at the transfer station Friday morning.

Dixon said a transfer station attendant lit the burn pile, and the dry conditions quickly allowed the flames to get away from him. He said the attendant got most of the flames out with an extinguisher by time the four firefighters and one engine responded seven minutes after the call was made at 10:37 a.m.

Dixon said firefighters put out hot spots and remained on the scene for an hour or so.

There was no damage, he said.
