MEXICO – SAD 43 Superintendent Jim Hodgkin told selectmen Wednesday night that district lawyers are preparing papers to turn the central office over to the town when the district disbands June 30.

The central office is a 50-year-old two-story, former school building next to the former Mexico High School on Recreation Drive.

SAD 43 will disband June 30 because voters OK’d joining with SAD 21 in Dixfield and SAD 39 in Buckfield to form the Western Foothills school system, also known as Regional School Unit 10.

The central office will be at the former Dixfield Elementary School.

Hodgkin said the district may request an easement at the existing central office so a communications tower and associated equipment may be accessed by school personnel.

He said the district has agreed to pay legal costs to transfer the building to the town.

In other matters Wednesday, selectmen voted to put a photo of the recently completed Thad White Bridge with a couple of antique cars crossing it on the cover of the annual report.

The bridge connects Mexico and Dixfield over the Webb River off Coburn Avenue in Dixfield and Leavitt Street in Mexico. Costs were equally shared by both towns.

Board Chairwoman Barbara Laramee was pleased with the decision.

“The bridge shows the two towns working together,” she said.

Dedication of the annual report was tabled until the March 25 board meeting. Selectmen are seeking suggestions for the honor.
