RUMFORD – Now that the annual Christmas in the Valley celebration is no longer, the Rumford Fire Department has booked a visit from Santa for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
Firefighter Eric Giroux said Sunday morning that Santa will climb down from the station roof that night and then participate in a parade down Congress Street to Veterans Park where he will light the town Christmas tree.
Afterward, he will return to the fire station to meet with children and hand out candy. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available for adults.
“We used to do this until Christmas in the Valley came in, and now we’re starting it up again,” Giroux said.
Additionally, firefighters will be selling raffle tickets for a $50 gift certificate for Brian’s Bistro restaurant and a Honda generator. But don’t count on giving either gift as an on-time Christmas present. The deadline isn’t until Feb. 28.
