DIXFIELD – Dixfield police handled the following incidents during the past week as well as issued the following notices.
Vandalism
The rear window of a 2001 Pontiac sedan was reported destroyed at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 2, when it was parked next to Harlow Park along Weld Street. The damage, estimated at $600, occurred while the owner of the vehicle was watching a football game. Police have a suspect.
Community service
A 15-year-old Carthage boy began doing community service Monday by washing town vehicles and picking up cigarette butts on school grounds following his apprehension for the theft of a pack of cigarettes from Ellis Variety at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 4. Chief Richard Pickett said similar punishments, in addition to restitution, are being meted out for five teenage boys who stole several lawn ornaments a couple of weeks ago. They will be mowing Harlow Park. He said his department tries to work with the parents of juveniles by assigning community service as punishment for a first offense, if the violation is minor.
Schools open; slow down
The 15 mph speed limit is in effect along portions of Weld Street in front of Dirigo High School and Dirigo Middle School from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and 2-3 p.m. on school days. When students are in school or when there is no school, the speed limit is 25 mph. Fines double for speeding near schools when the lower speed limit is in effect.
