PERU – Selectmen voted 3-1 to set the tax rate at $15.80 per $1,000 of assessed property value Monday night. The rate last year was $14.30.

Road Commissioner Joe Roach gave selectmen his schedule for proposed work this week. He said he will remove accumulated winter sand and debris on lower Mineral Spring Road.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer told Roach of a sand situation at the corner of Route 108 and Green Woods Road.

Roach will also repair a guardrail at Cummings Brook Bridge and sweep Mary Turner Bridge. He also plans to rock rake Concord Pond Road.

Building permits were signed for Maurice Brooks to install a retaining wall on Irish Farm Road, for Gary Warren to build a garage on High Street, and Don and Bill Paradis to build a shed on Short Street.

Effective July 1, anyone who proceeds with construction or clearing for construction, including free-standing, metal-framed enclosures, before receiving a building permit will be subject to a $100 fine.

Selectman Rodney Jamison spoke in open session about some issues that he had with the way the board was run.

“I came on board as a selectman to try and get issues out to the town,” he said. “When I ask to have issues placed on the agenda, I don’t want them put at the bottom and told they may be discussed if there is time. I’m tired of one person running this town. I never feel like my issues are listened to.”

Selectman Laurieann Milligan said she didn’t feel the same. “I feel like I get my opinions voiced and they are heard,” she said.

When Chairman Bill Scott asked Jamison what his real issues were, Jamison replied that it was the same thing “over and over, one person running the town.”

Scott asked Jamison if they could discuss the situation in executive session. After the items on the agenda were addressed the board adjourned to executive session.

There will be no selectmen’s meeting July 7.
