MEXICO – More than a dozen households on Carlton Avenue were without water for about two hours Monday due to a broken water main valve.
The residents of those 14 or 15 homes must boil any water used for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth until the results of a water sample come back from the state laboratory later in the week.
Mexico Water District Superintendent Jim White said residents experienced low water pressure before the water was turned off. He said a combination of old pipes and an old valve was the cause of the problem.
Water was off from about 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. while he and his crew of two made repairs. He said the boil water order is a precaution required by the state whenever water is shut off. It is meant to protect against contaminants.
The results of the water sample are expected from the Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday, he said.
