CANTON – Selectman Jacqueline Conant was re-elected for a three-year term Friday, and Bernard Adams and Sue Degroot were elected to the Planning Board for three-year terms, as the town held its elections Friday.
Cynthia Bissell was voted to be SAD 21 director for three years and incumbent Craig Gammon was re-elected road commissioner by a a 32-vote margin, 60-28, over challenger Steven Cole.
There were several write-ins for Budget Committee. Norris Conant received four votes and the following five received three votes each. Four are needed and it will have to be decided between Conant and Katheryn Mikshenas, Kelly Cavanaugh, Ben McCollister, Paula Marsters and James Austin.
The following referdum questions passed:
• Town officers needing bonds will be bonded by a reliable company.
• Selectmen are permitted to carry forward to 2007 unexpended appropriation balances of 2006.
• Transfer of overdrafts and balances to the surplus account.
• Tax collector authorized to collect personal taxes more than a year old according to methods as prescribed by the laws for the current year’s taxes.
• Town authorized to fix date of taxes as November 2006 and fix the rate of 10 percent interest to be charged after said date.
• Authorization of prepayment of taxes prior to tax commitment pursuant to 36 MRSA SS.506.
• Selectmen authorized to negotiate temporary loans on behalf of town to be repaid during 2006 fiscal year.
• Town authorized to accept funds provided by the Maine State Legislature.
The town meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. today in the Municipal Building preceded by a public hearing at 8:30 on the proposed Cluster Housing Ordinance.
