RUMFORD – The Finance Committee voted 7-2 on Friday to recommend no funds for the article pertaining to a proposed $1.9 million fire station.
Some committee members were concerned about the rising price of steel, site location and additional costs associated with completing the project.
Even with the recommendation, the article for funding the new station will appear on Rumford’s annual report.
A two-thirds majority vote will be required at the town meeting to appropriate any funds for the new fire station.
Along with the fire station request, committee members made recommendations on several other budget requests. Some requests that will be recommended by the committee at the town meeting included: $70,000 for Black Mountain Ski Area, $16,000 for the River Valley Growth Council, $10,219 for SeniorsPlus, and $5,000 for the River Valley Chamber of Commerce. Citing difficult economic times, most of the two dozen representatives of the organizations at the meeting requested the same amount this year as they had in 2003.
