AUGUSTA – The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife received a boost from the State Planning Office Tuesday afternoon.
Directors from the Planning Office’s Land for Maine’s Future Program approved a contribution of $31,333 to compensate for the department’s purchase last fall of a water access site and land in Canton.
“We will also likely make a small contribution to various legal and survey costs,” said Tim Glidden, director of the Land for Maine’s Future program.
Last fall, the department paid $47,000 for about 52 acres of land and shorefront located on the Androscoggin River in Canton at the upper end of the impoundment at Riley Dam.
The department expects to build a large boat launch facility along 1,300 feet of shore frontage in 2005. The land parcel is to become a wildlife management area.
