Dear Sun Spots: Did your readers know that their deceased family members who were in the National Guard are entitled to have an American flag displayed on their grave site? I contacted Maine Bureau of Veterans Services in Augusta at 207-626-4464 about having a flag put on my husband’s grave. They said even if the Guard member did not serve in the regular Army, if they had served in the Guard for six years they are entitled to have a flag. Contact your local American Legion or other veterans’ association. Thank you for all you do for the public. – No Name, Carthage.
Dear Sun Spots: I could not find the note about Mark in Auburn, who needs a projector to see his 8 mm film. We have the works if he wants to buy it cheap. Call 207-268-4418. – No Name, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a disabled granddaughter who is getting her first apartment this month. She is in need of help to furnish it. She has a bed and a few odds and ends. She needs mostly living room and dining room things and a bureau. Maybe a few readers have these in their garage, etc. Thanks for any help. – Philip, Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: Could you please find out why Cheryl Mercier left the Don Brown Radio show on 104.3 and why 104.3 keeps losing it broadcasting signal? It’s very annoying. Thank you. – Sam, Rumford.
Answer: According to Kelly Slater, VP/Market Manager at WABK, right now WABK’s tower is undergoing repair work. In order to allow the folks to climb the tower they have to lower the power. This may cause the signal strength to be a bit less in some of the coverage areas. They are hoping to have all repairs complete by the middle of June and have WABK back up to full power 100 percent of the time.
We haven’t yet received any information on Cheryl Mercier. Pat Pepin joined Don on the morning show earlier this year. According to her biography from WABK, she is well-known in the area for her singing and saxophone playing.
Dear Sun Spots: Who in the Lewiston/Auburn area replaces invisible zippers? After contacting several seamstresses, I have been unable to locate anyone who does this type of repair. Thanks. – No Name, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: Laurie Dhue and Michelle Malkin are no longer seen on Fox News. I view this channel regularly and would like to know why. Thank you for all the interesting and valuable information you provide each day. – D.P., Monmouth.
Answer: According to multiple Web sites, Laurie Dhue and Fox News Channel parted ways in mid-March when they could not agree on a new contract. Dhue joined Fox in 2000, as an anchor and reporter and was a correspondent on the syndicated version of Geraldo at Large.
Since September 2006, she had a segment on The O’Reilly Factor called “The Dhue Point.” Before working at Fox News, Dhue was an anchor at MSNBC and CNN.
According to Michelle Malkin’s Web site, www.michellemalkin.com, she made the decision to quit appearing on the O’Reilly Factor “in response to the poor handling of the Geraldo Rivera matter.” On Sept. 1, 2007, Geraldo Rivera was quoted in a Boston Globe interview threatening to spit on Malkin. Rivera would later apologize for his words explaining that he was overcome with emotion at the time, but she felt the apology was staged and she decided not to return to the show.
She started her newspaper journalism career at the Los Angeles Daily News in 1992, moved to the Seattle Times in 1995, and has been penning nationally syndicated newspaper columns for Creators Syndicate since 1999. Check out her Web site for articles and columns.
